With events scheduled all day in each of six rings, there is always something to see at the Oregon High Desert Classics. Spectators are welcome at any time to watch the athleticism of the horses, wander through the marketplace booths, and have a meal from the food trucks. This is a rare opportunity to see top riders from across the continent as they compete for over $150,000 in prizes.
The Classics are held each year during the last two weekends of July, running Wednesday through Sunday. Special events include the International Hunter Derby Brunches on Sundays, the Ride Drive and Drink Race (Jumper course, wheelbarrow race, and finishing a beer,) Best Dog Competitions, and the Saturday evening Grand Prix Dinners. The Grands Prix are the most popular events for spectators, so come early as our stands are small and seating is first-come first served, or bring your own chair. Ring schedules are available on our website in the Prize List, and event guides will become available online the week before Classics I, as well as at the show.
The prestigious Oregon High Desert Classics (OHDC) is the only event of its kind in Central Oregon. Approved by the US Hunter Jumper Association, and recipient of the highest AA rating from the US Equestrian Foundation, this show attracts world class riders from all over the US and Canada. One of only 25 to receive Heritage Horse Show designation, it is also the only show of its caliber which is primarily a fundraiser for a non-profit.
Donations and sponsorships are instrumental to the success of OHDC and J Bar J Youth Services. Those who support this incredibly special event are not only bringing a world class horse show to Central Oregon, but also helping facilitate change for youth in jeopardy. J Bar J Youth Services operates J Bar J Boys Ranch & J5, The Academy at Sisters, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon, Cascade Youth and Family Center, Grandma’s House, Anti-Trafficking Project, and Kindred Connections.
