Actor Alastair Jaques performs “Fremont: Finding the Path” at the Des Chutes Historical Museum on Thursday, August 28 at 6:30 p.m.. The one-man show focuses on Fremont’s life and adventures after his iconic and career-defining second expedition into the American West and at the beginning of his meteoric rise to fame.
Drawn from Fremont’s published reports, private correspondence, and other primary source documents, “Fremont: Finding the Path” seeks to capture the flawed and all too human grandeur of a man who too often seemed larger than life. Fremont, who became known as “The Great Pathfinder”, provided the first popularly available maps of The Oregon Trail, and his second expedition was the first to map large portions of Central Oregon.
This free performance is made possible through a generous grant from the Oregon Bureau of Land Management. The program presentation takes place outside on the north lawn of the Museum, located at 129 NW Idaho Ave, weather permitting.
Alastair Morley Jaques studied theater arts and American Literature at the University of Oregon and the Evergreen State College. He has appeared along the west coast in a variety of roles, Shakespearean and contemporary, as well as lending his vocal talents to a number of commercials and audio book narrations. He lives in Portland, Oregon.
