On Saturday, June 1st, celebrate the 10th year of the Oregon Badlands Wilderness by exploring the surrounding area on a family adventure with author Wendy Gorton of 50 Hikes with Kids: Oregon and Washington (a National Outdoor Book Award prizewinner)! We’ll explore one of the hiking routes and scavenger hunts from her book — kids will receive their own nature journal, learn how to stop and try to identify species, do nature photography with camera phones, and “power up” by stopping at switchbacks and playing nature games.
Difficulty: Moderate. At 2.8 miles round trip with 566 feet elevation gain, this is considered a challenging hike for little ones but very do-able with plenty of stops and water! Bring layers, water, a hat, sunscreen, first aid kit and any other items your child needs to have a good time outdoors.
Plenty of mid-day snacks will be provided by Newport Avenue Market. Attendees are welcome to pack additional lunches.
Please note that space is limited and pre-registration via Eventbrite is required. If the trip is filled when you go to register, we encourage you to sign up for the waitlist as spaces do open up on these hikes.
