63 devoted actors from BEAT Children’s Theatre have rehearsed daily to bring Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! to life on the stage. A live orchestra from the Central Oregon Symphony and Michael Gesme, Conductor of the Central Oregon Symphony will join the actors and provide unforgettable song, dance and music. The show originally opened in March 1943 and now 75 years later, you can see Rodgers and Hammerstein first collaboration and one of their most innovative visions in Oklahoma! Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a cowboy and Laurey, a farm girl, play out their love story. Although the road to love never runs smooth, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love’s journey is bumpy. They will succeed in making a new life together and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA!
