Wildfires Force Ochoco National Forest Closures

Sunday FiresPRINEVILLE, OR — Due to wildfires burning in Central Oregon, the Ochoco National Forest has issued an area closure that runs from Highway 26 to the west,  Forest Road 12 on the east and along forest boundaries on the north and south.  Crews have also closed the Mill Creek Wilderness.  The closures have been issued to provide for public and firefighter safety during a period of very active fire behavior and fire suppression efforts.  The closure covers all campgrounds, trailheads, forest roads, and developed facilities on National Forest System lands within the closure area.

Fires within the closure boundary include the Bailey Butte fire, which is being managed as part of the Waterman Complex, and five fires that make up the Ochoco Complex, managed by the Great Basin Incident Management Team Six.   The order includes exceptions for people travelling in an official capacity, and those with special permits and written permissions.

Ochoco National Forest officials said the order will be rescind the order as soon as it is safe to do so.

Oregon’s Payroll Employment Adds 6,900 Jobs

In August, Oregon’s seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment rose by 6,900 jobs, following a revised gain of 100 jobs in July. August’s gains were largest in health care and social assistance (+2,500 jobs); leisure and hospitality (+1,500); government (+1,100); and other services (+1,000). Losses were
