Roseburg, Ore – People will soon get to see the work done by a Bend company at a Hatchery in Roseburg. The Hatchery will be open to the public again tomorrow after being closed to visitors in March during raceway reconstruction.

The project was completed by Deschutes Construction Corporation of Bend. Funding came from the Restoration and Enhancement Program which generates revenue by a surcharge on sport fishing licenses, and a matching grant from the Umpqua Steelhead Enhancement Derby.

Two 75-year-old raceways for South Umpqua River winter steelhead broodstock were reconstructed into four, increasing rearing capacity by 25 percent and allowing biologists to conduct research studies.
