La Pine Fire Aims For Improved Service Through Survey

La Pine fire TeamLA PINE, OR — La Pine residents may get a knock at their door from a firefighter this summer.  But it may not be in reaction to an emergency, but an effort to help prevent one.

La Pine firefighters plan to visit every property in the fire district this summer, in uniform and in a marked vehicle.  It’s an effort to collect data firefighters hope they’ll never have to use, but data that could be critical in the fight to protect homes from a wildfire.   Fire officials said the information they’re looking for can be found from each driveway, and interaction with residents is not required.  However, they may knock on the door to let people know they’re in the area and available to answer any questions.

The fire district received a grant to employ student firefighters for the project, which will link federal, state and county databases.  Firefighter will then be able to use the information to better battle wildfires in the area.
