Mount Bachelor Opens Early For Summer Season

Bend, Ore. – Mt. Bachelor will open for the summer season tomorrow, a week earlier than initially planned thanks to recent warm and dry weather.

Starting Saturday, Mt. Bachelor will offer scenic chairlift rides, lunch at Pine Marten Lodge, disc golf and sled dog cart rides. The downhill bike park opens the following week on Friday, July 3.

“The winter snowpack melted quickly this spring, allowing us to start our summer preparations earlier than normal,” said Drew Jackson, the resort’s marketing and communications manager. “Our early summer opening is great timing given the upcoming heat wave. Temperatures at Mt. Bachelor are 10-15 degrees lower than in town. Head to the mountain if you want to cool off!”

Chairlift operating hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through July 2. Starting July 3, the resort will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended hours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for Sunset Dinners at Pine Marten Lodge and twilight mountain biking.

This will be Mt. Bachelor’s second summer of mountain biking. More than 10 miles of downhill trails, including a new beginner park served by the Sunshine Accelerator lift, will be ready to ride starting July 3. Construction and trail expansion will continue through the summer with new intermediate trails and a double black diamond trail designed by local pro riders opening in August.

The resort also announced a Mountain Clean Up Day, scheduled for Saturday, July 11 at 9 a.m. Guests can enjoy a complimentary ride up the Pine Marten chairlift and pick up litter on the hike down. To thank volunteers for their effort, Mt. Bachelor will offer a complimentary one day lift ticket, valid to use during the 2015-2016 winter ski and snowboard season, to the first 400 participants.

Mt. Bachelor will operate daily through Monday, September 7. Scenic chairlift rides and downhill mountain biking will be offered Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the rest of September and into October if conditions allow.
