Bend, Ore. – Today in Bend city fire crews held a special training exercise to help them better prepare for fight fires in homes and businesses and specifically when they have the dangerous task of fighting from the roof.

The State of Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) has purchased a mobile ventilation training prop through grant funding.

Staff members of DPSST needed to learn the features and functions of the prop, and Bend Fire was lucky enough to get to use it while their staff became familiar with it.

The prop features a 512 square foot roof surface with a hydraulically adjustable pitch.

The roof adjusts from flat to a 12/12 pitch in seconds. The mobile training vehicle also has a variety of forcible entry props on board.

KBNW’s Jesse Sky was there and will have a full report on KBNW news tomorrow morning from 6 to 9 a.m. on Central Oregon’s Morning News.
