The Bowman Museum’s latest exhibit, The History of Crook County Fire & Rescue, opened March 4th and runs through May 31st at the Belknap Exhibit Center. This special exhibit highlights the evolution of firefighting in Crook County, showcasing the dedication and bravery of the men and women who have protected the community for over a century.

Visitors will explore the early days of fire response in Central Oregon, from bucket brigades to modern fire engines, and discover the challenges, advancements, and heroic stories that have shaped local fire and rescue services. The exhibit features historic photographs, firefighting equipment, personal stories from local firefighters, and displays that bring the history of Crook County Fire & Rescue to life.

“We are excited to share this important piece of Crook County’s history with our community,” said Sean Briscoe, Executive Director of the Bowman Museum. “Firefighters have played a critical role in keeping our towns and rural areas safe, and this exhibit honors their legacy while educating visitors on how fire and rescue services have evolved over time.”

A special opening will be held on March 8, in conjunction with the Crook County Fire & Rescue Museum. This is a great chance to explore both museums and meet the firefighters at Crook County Fire & Rescue.

The Bowman Museum is located at 246 N Main Street, Prineville, OR, and admission to the exhibit is free, though donations are appreciated.
