Forest Service Road (FSR) 18, south of Bend, is temporarily closed between mile markers 17 and 18 due to recent rain and flooding. A portion of the road washed out Monday, February 24 and is closed for the safety of the public until it can be repaired.
Forest Service Road 18 will remain closed until temporary repairs can be completed and the road is safe for vehicle traffic. Repairs are expected to be completed by Thursday, March 6.
Additional repairs will be needed later this summer or fall to fully repair the damage from recent storms. The future repair work will include installing a larger culvert and re-building the roadbed.
Recent precipitation across the Deschutes National Forest has impacted road conditions. The public is advised to travel with caution or avoid using roads and trails that have standing water or deep mud, as this creates resource damage that must be repaired.
For more information about the temporary road closure, please reach out to the Bend-Fort Rock Ranger District at (541) 383-5300.
