Open House Updates Bend Midtown Project

bend-17

The City of Bend is hosting an open house on Tuesday, June 18 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Open Space Event Studios, 220 NE Lafayette Avenue, Bend, OR 97701 to share the latest information about upcoming changes to Greenwood Avenue and planned improvements to Second Street. There will also be an online version of the open house available from June 11-25 at bendoregon.gov/midtowncrossings.

Project designers and City staff will be available to provide information on plans for Greenwood Avenue and Second Street, answer questions and listen to feedback.  The Greenwood Avenue “Quick-Build” will see surface treatment design changes from Wall Street to Second Street to make the route safer for all users.  This is the last opportunity to provide comments on the quick-build surface treatment design before installation this summer.  It is referred to as a “quick build” because the project involves lower cost, quicker installation surface treatments that will be evaluated for a year before deciding the full-build construction next summer.

The Second Street Improvements will include on-street parking, bicycle “sharrows,” complete sidewalks, intersection bulb-outs, improved lighting, landscaping, and stormwater improvements with construction happening fall 2024.

Creating safer connections between neighborhoods, places of work, schools, parks and businesses, for people who ride bikes, walk or roll, is a City priority. The City is designing a variety of safer and more accessible bike and pedestrian routes throughout the community, including the Midtown Crossings Project, aimed at linking the Central District to Downtown Bend. Midtown Crossings includes four key connections in the area:

  • Greenwood Avenue: Corridor and undercrossing quick-build improvements and long-term planning
  • Franklin Avenue: Corridor and undercrossing improvements
  • Second Street: Streetscape improvements
  • Hawthorne Overcrossing: Preliminary design for a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge
