Deschutes Public Library Board members today voted to appoint Redmond resident Erin Trimble to the Zone 1 Library Board position. The vacancy comes after board member Cynthia Claridge resigned due to an upcoming move out of the zone. Trimble was one of four candidates interviewed by the Board.

“As I reflect on the library mission of enriching the community through equitable, open access to books, services and resources that inspire people to reach for their dreams, I am reminded of my own dream of becoming a sign language interpreter and how my hometown library made that happen,” said Trimble. “I am pleased to represent Redmond on the Library Board and for the opportunity to work with fellow Board members to fulfill the library’s mission and core values.”

Trimble has lived in Redmond since 2006 and currently works as the ASL Coordinator at Central Oregon Community College. She earned her Bachelor of Science in ASL/English Interpreting from William Woods University and a Master of Arts in Interpreting Studies from Western Oregon University. She has been a professional sign language interpreter since 2003 and serves on the City of Redmond Parks Committee.

“The Board was impressed with Erin’s background and passion for libraries and is eager to begin working with her,” said Library Director Todd Dunkelberg. Trimble’s appointment takes effect when she is sworn in at the March 13 board meeting. She will then serve the remainder of the Zone 1 term, which runs through June 30, 2025.
