Jets Fined $100K for Tampering

Jim McIsaac/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — The NFL announced Tuesday that the New York Jets will be fined $100,000 for owner Woody Johnson’s remarks last year about cornerback Darrelle Revis.

During a news conference last December, Johnson said that he would, “love to have Darrelle back.”

Johnson made these comments while Revis was still playing for the New England Patriots, who proceeded to file tampering charges.

The Jets signed Revis to a five-year, $70 million contract this offseason. After the signing, Patriots owner Robert Kraft commented that he wished Revis, “was still with us.” That,  in turn, prompted the Jets to file tampering charges against the Patriots, but ESPN says the league will not punish New England.

Revis spent his first six seasons with the Jets before leaving for Tampa Bay in 2013. He signed with New England for the 2014 season and played a big part in the Patriots winning Super Bowl XLIX.
