Bend Man Arrested In Stabbing Death Of His Mother

A 37-year-old Bend man was taken into custody on suspicion of second degree murder in the stabbing death of his mother. According to Bend Police, at approximately 9:21 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26, police were dispatched to a report of a domestic dispute taking place in the 300 block of SE Lee Lane. The caller indicated a person at the residence had been stabbed.

Police arrived at the Lee Lane home within one minute where they encountered the suspect who lived in the home. He was taken into custody. Officers then entered the home to render aid to the victim, identified as the suspect’s 60-year-old mother, Rene Lynn Carlson. Carlson lived in the home with her son and another family member. Police say there is no outstanding threat to the community.

The suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of second-degree murder. He was transported to the Bend Police Department for further investigation before being transferred to St. Charles Bend. Police say he will be booked in the Deschutes County Jail after being discharged from the hospital.

The area of SE Lee Lane and Woodland Boulevard between Third and Fourth streets remains closed as detectives and the Oregon State Police Forensics Lab continue to process the scene.
