On June 21, at approximately 4pm, the Deschutes County 911 center started receiving multiple calls for a report of a building on fire in the area of SW Veterans Way and SW Lake Rd. Redmond Fire & Rescue crews responded to the scene and upon their arrival fire was already through the roof. Fire crews quickly pulled handlines and set up a master stream from the ladder truck to protect surrounding buildings. Due to the quick actions of the fire crews, they were able to contain the fire to the one building. Shortly after the arrival of fire crews, the roof of the building collapsed into the building and subsequently the exterior walls collapsed. No firefighters or civilians were injured during the fire.

The building was currently under construction and had not been fully finished on the inside, wooden structural members were still fully exposed allowing the fire to spread rapidly through the building.

Fire investigators were on scene during the event and today conducting interviews and processing the fire scene. The fire is being classified as undetermined. Fire investigators utilize the classification of undetermined when their hypotheses or multiple hypotheses cannot be supported based upon the information they have collected. If more information comes in at a later time that supports their hypotheses the classification can be updated at that time.
