Quarterflash was created by the husband-wife team of Rindy Ross (lead vocal/saxophone) and Marv Ross (guitar/songwriter) in 1980 and signed to Geffen Records. Their self-titled debut release went multiplatinum on the strength of four top-forty songs, including their #3 single, Harden My Heart. For the next decade Quarterflash released 4 albums and toured internationally including stints with Elton John, Linda Ronstadt, Sammy Hagar, and Jefferson Starship. Their recordings have been used in numerous films, television shows, and on Broadway including Rock of Ages, The Americans, King of the Hill, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, and Gremlins. Though the band’s personnel changed over time, the Rossesremained at the helm of the Oregon-based group and continue to perform and record.
Marv and Rindy left the “major label world” to create several successful indie projects including writing two award-winning musicals, producing 12 CDs with the eclectic acoustic Trail Band, and establishing a popular annual NW Christmas concert benefitting Friends of the Children – now in its 22nd season. The Rosses were inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame and received the Alumni Award of Excellence from their alma mater, Western Oregon University, for their contributions to the arts.
For the last two decades, Quarterflash has continued to play on a limited basis with acts such as Pat Benatar, The Byrds, and Three Dog Night, but in 2012, the band decided to make a return to their roots in pop-rock, and Marv began to create songs that would become the newly released (9/24/13), Love Is A Road – their first rock CD in decades. Writing, jamming, and recording in the basement of producerdrummer, Gregg Williams, (Sheryl Crow, Dandy Warhols, Blitzentrapper), Quarterflash worked through the spring of 2013 – honing a new sound inspired by 60’s psychedelic folk-rock, blues, and soul. The band line-up is currently Doug Fraser/lead guitar, Mel Kubik/keys, Denny Bixby/bass, Gregg Williams/drums, Rindy Ross/lead voc-sax, and Marv Ross/rhythm guitar.
