Man Detained In Prineville Shooting Death

A man was detained in connection with the shooting death of another man in Prineville Sunday. According to info from Prineville Police and the Crook County District Attorney’s Office, at 4:35 p.m., Prineville 911 dispatch received a report of a possible gunshot victim. The first law enforcement arriving on scene at Iron Horse Mesa Apartments located at 2252 NE Colleen Road, evaluated Prineville resident Kade Riley Nichol, 27, who was non-breathing and non-responsive, and immediately began life saving measures. Unfortunately, he had succumbed to his injuries.  Officers determined Nichol was in fact the victim of a gunshot wound.

Within minutes, officers were able to locate and detain the reported shooter, a 29-year-old Prineville resident.  Prineville Police Department, assisted by Major Crime Teams, Crook County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Oregon State Police Crime Lab, Warm Springs Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, and the Crook County District Attorney’s Office worked throughout the night executing several search warrants in the collection of evidence in the shooting.

The preliminary investigation has determined that the individuals involved knew each other. Nichol entered the residence of the 29-year-old male shooter where a physical altercation occurred inside the residence between the two men. The 29-year-old male discharged a firearm. Nichol was later pronounced deceased on scene.

Currently there is no danger to the public in regard to this investigation. Due to the fact this is an ongoing investigation no further details will be released.
