Central Oregon Climate Presentation

Central Oregon’s record-setting heat waves, recurring smoke-filled skies and debilitating drought are all subjects to be addressed in “Climate Resilience in Central Oregon,” a Nancy R. Chandler Lecture Series presentation at Central Oregon Community College (COCC), being held in-person at Wille Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, with a livestream option also offered. Tickets are $8 for the in-person event and $5 for the livestream, available at cocc.edu/foundation/cls.
Presenter Hal Wershow is an assistant geology professor at COCC and a board member of the Central Oregon Geoscience Society. His talk will examine climate change in Central Oregon, what changes are expected regionally throughout the 21st century, as well as what communities can do to diminish impacts and adapt to changes. Wershow began his geology career at the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory and later worked as a field geologist at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Los Alamos National Laboratory.
COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place for this event, with masks required. COCC strongly encourages in-person attendees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and encourages unvaccinated participants to choose the livestream version to ensure the health and safety of the community. With the pandemic changing rapidly, all programs are subject to change or postponement; refunds will be issued in the event of a cancellation.
For more information on this event, contact Charlotte Gilbride, coordinator for the Chandler Lecture Series, at 541-383-7257 or cgilbride@cocc.edu. The event is sponsored by the Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund and the Associated Students of COCC.
