A Redmond man was arrested after allegedly detonating a homemade bomb at a southwest Redmond intersection. According to Redmond Police, officers on patrol heard a large explosion on the west side of Redmond early Thursday.  Responding officers located Andrew McLaughlin, 30 , near the intersection of SW Highland Ave and SW 35th Street, Redmond, with a fire starter, and black soot on his body and clothing.

Police say McLaughlin detonated a homemade destructive device at the intersection in front of an oncoming vehicle, and near the Bonneville Power Station.  Police believed more destructive devices were at McLaughlin’s residence in the 3300 block of SW Juniper Ave in Redmond. Neighboring residences were contacted and temporarily asked to “shelter in place” for their safety during the initial search of the house.

McLaughlin was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Destructive Device, Unlawful Manufacture of Destructive Device, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
