Representative Knute Buehler Testifies on Vaccinations Bill
Dr. Buehler asks Senate Health Care Committee to pass SB 442
Salem, Ore. – The Senate Health Care Committee held a public hearing yesterday on SB 442, which would remove non-medical exemptions for vaccinations. Representative Knute Buehler, an orthopedic surgeon from Bend, testified in favor of the bill.
“I’m all for freedom until it starts to do harm to others and I think that this bill helps prevent this,” Rep. Buehler testified. “As a doctor, nothing is more important to me than protecting my patients, especially children who are particularly vulnerable to dangerous diseases.”
SB 442 has received a lot of attention recently. If passed, it would remove religious and philosophical exemptions for vaccinating children.
“It distresses me to hear the recent stories of outbreaks, despite the advances in medicine and overwhelming science that shows that vaccines could prevent these diseases with little risk of harm. SB 442 will help prevent future cases and ensure our most vulnerable citizens – our children – are protected from preventable diseases.”
