The Dalles, Ore. – Initial work is underway on a major freeway construction project in the center of The Dalles. This mobilization work includes setting up traffic control, installing signs, and placing asphalt for staging traffic ahead of major construction which is due to start the week of February 9.
The project will replace the concrete pavement located on Interstate 84 within the city limits of The Dalles, and construct a new bridge on I-84 over Threemile Creek. Wildish Standard Paving Company is the contractor on the $ 25 Million dollar effort.
Starting in early- to mid-February, traffic will be placed in a single lane in each direction to start initial stage construction, expected to be completed by Memorial Day 2015. Summer work will consist mostly of bridge construction. Roadwork begins again after Labor Day 2015, with project completion set for Memorial Day 2016.
People interested in the project are invited to attend an open house to learn more about it. The open house is set for The Dalles Middle School Commons Area, for February 25th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
