On 08/11/2020, at approximately 1403 hours, Deputies from the Crook County Sheriff’s Office were
dispatched to a report of an injury head on motor vehicle crash on SW Houston Lake Road near SW
Cornett Loop. Initial reports to Crook County 9-1-1 indicated that a head on collision had occurred with
possible entrapment, and that the roadway was blocked.
As a result of the crash investigation, it was determined that 39 year old Martel Moon of Bend, Oregon
was operating a 1998 Nissan Sentra while traveling east bound on SW Houston Lake Road when he
crossed the double yellow line on a sharp corner where he collided with a west bound 2001 Dodge 3500.
The 2001 Dodge 3500 was operated by 57 year old Cuauhtemoc Cardona of Redmond. He was also
accompanied by 49 year old Margarita Cardona of Redmond. Moon was extricated from the Nissan
Sentra by Crook County Fire & Rescue.
The Cardona’s were uninjured, but still evaluated by medics. Moon was transported to St. Charles
Medical Center-Bend via Air Link, and it is unknown what the extent of his injuries are.
The Crook County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oregon State Police, Crook County Fire &
Rescue, STAR Towing, Active Towing, Crook County Road Department, and Air Link.
No further information to provide. The investigation is ongoing.
