Wasco County, Ore. – On December 5, 2014, at approximately 4:15 p.m., the Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers were dispatched to a four (4) vehicle crash on US HWY 26 at milepost 67.5, in Wasco County.
Preliminary investigation indicates a blue, 2005 Dodge Caravan, driven by KIMBERLY A. MEEKER, 41, of Madras, with two juvenile passengers, were eastbound on highway 26 when she lost control on ice in the area and crossed into the westbound lane. The Caravan was hit on the drivers side by a westbound Volvo S40, which was occupied by two adults and one infant passenger. The Caravan was hit again by a westbound silver 2002 Toyota Sequoia, occupied by only the driver. A fourth vehicle, a black 2005 Saturn Ion, was eastbound and attempting to avoid the crash but struck the rear bumper of the Volvo S40 and then the guardrail.
The driver of the Caravan died at the scene; a juvenile rear passenger in her vehicle was taken by Life Flight to a Portland Area Hospital with serious injuries and her juvenile front seat passenger was transported by ground ambulance to Portland with injuries.
The passengers in the Volvo were transported by private vehicle to a Madras hospital as a precaution. None of the occupants reported injury at the time of the crash.
No occupants in the Saturn reported injury.
While the investigation is ongoing, ice is being investigated as the likely cause of the crash. No additional details are available at this time.
OSP was assisted at the scene by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), United States Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer (LEO), Life Flight, and the Hoodland Fire District.
