Redmond Proficiency Academy Theater Presents Peter and the Starcatcher by Rick Elice

October 26, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - October 27, 2018 @ 10:00 pm

Redmond, OR – The Redmond Proficiency Academy will open the 2018-19 theater season with a production of Peter and the Starcatcher on Thursday and Friday, October 26 and 27. The play will continue its run November 1-3, with all shows starting at 7:00 p.m. at RPA’s theatre in downtown Redmond.

“Being in Peter and the Starcatcher is like being a kid again,” said RPA junior Marli Messner. “This show is so full of love and fun, and I think the audience will be able to feel that. The world is silly and sweet and wonderful, and it’s one heck of a ride.”

Based on the novel by D.M. Barrie and Ridley Pearson, Peter and the Starcatcher explores how a young orphan ultimately became Peter Pan. Peter and the Starcatcher upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). A wildly theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novel, the play was conceived for the stage by directors Roger Rees, and Alex Timbers, and written by Rick Elice, with music by Wayne Barker. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair…and the bonds of friendship, duty, and love.

“The creative possibilities of this show are endless,” said RPA Theatre Director Kate Torcom. “It’s story theatre which requires our department to be both inventive and resourceful. Plungers are swords, pirate ships are made from rope, and everyone is a mermaid in this Neverland.”

Due to the unique nature of the performance space, RPA highly recommends that audience members acquire tickets prior to attending the show. “It’s not your classic high school auditorium; it’s an exposed brick, black box theater that’s reminiscent of professional playhouses in Chicago,” said Torcom of the McClay Center for the Performing Arts, located in RPA’s Evergreen Building at 640 SW Evergreen Avenue in downtown Redmond.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at rpatheatre.ticketleap.com. Limited tickets will be available at the door. General admission is $5, and student admission is $2.
