Body Found On Deschutes River at Lava Island Falls

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue and Bend Fire & Rescue conducted a recovery operation on the Deschutes River at Lava Island Falls southwest of Bend. According to a news release from DCSO:

Wednesday, around 2:30 p.m., kayakers discovered a body at Lava Island Falls after paddling to the island to take photos. The area of the river where the body was found is extremely difficult to access, and recovery crews estimate it will take at least four to five hours to complete the operation safely. The identity of the body is not known.

The operation is taking place in an area not accessible to the public. We ask community members to please avoid the area and allow first responders the space to complete this complex recovery.
