The Ochoco National Forest, in partnership with the Central Oregon Disability Support Network (CODSN), is excited to announce its first all-inclusive hike, “The Ochocos for All,” taking place next Saturday, September 28, 2024. This event will be held from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Bandit Springs Trailhead and is designed to provide a welcoming outdoor experience for individuals and families of all abilities, fostering connection and enjoyment of our public lands.
CODSN has been instrumental in making this event possible, as part of its ongoing mission to promote inclusion and accessibility within the community.
“Our mission is to create a space where families and individuals can connect, foster a positive, strengths-based vision for the future, access practical resources, and feel empowered to live fulfilling lives,” said CODSN Crook County Program Coordinator Marrin Nyman. “Through events like our All-Inclusive Hike, we make these goals a reality, offering fun, family-friendly experiences that promote connection and inclusion.”
The hike will take place on the scenic “Ponderosa Loop” in the Ochoco National Forest, where participants can enjoy the beauty of the forest while engaging in a supportive, inclusive community event. Forest Service staff will be on hand to assist and provide information about the area.
“We’re hopeful that this is just the beginning of many more inclusive events like this in the future,” said Forest Supervisor Shane Jeffries. “It’s important to us that everyone, regardless of ability, feels welcome to enjoy these lands. Public lands are for all, and we’re committed to making sure there are opportunities for everyone to experience the Ochoco National Forest and Crooked River National Grassland.”
