The Bend Police Department is currently soliciting applications from Bend community members interested in serving on the Police Chief’s Advisory Council.

The Police Chief’s Advisory Council was restarted in 2022 with the goal of building and keeping trust between the community and the police department.

The council consists of up to 20 community members with broad and diverse life experiences that reflect the Bend community. In addition, the Chief of Police will select members based on their integrity, commitment to the community, and their demonstrated ability to act as a communication conduit within their community networks.

The PCAC serves three critical missions:

  • To advise the Chief of Police and the Police Department on various issues from the community perspective.
  • To act as a communication conduit between community networks and the Police Department; and
  • To enhance trust between the community and the law enforcement agencies that serve them.

New members will serve two-year terms. Members will generally be limited to serve no more than a single two-year term on the PCAC, although the Chief of Police has discretion to reappoint members to additional terms as he sees fit.

Meetings will generally run for 90 minutes to two hours, one evening per month, and regular attendance is expected. Members are also expected to attend Community Academy and participate in at least one ride-along with an officer.

If you’re interested in serving your community on the Police Chief’s Advisory Council, please fill out an application by 5 p.m. on Monday, July 22. You can learn more about the PCAC on our website.
