Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Oregon State University – Cascades will celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and recognize local members of the AAPI community with events on May 9.  

A community art exhibit and discussion will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Attendees will view art submitted by community members, then participate in a discussion led by Venus Nguyen, an assistant professor of art at Central Oregon Community College. Nguyen teaches classes in two-dimensional and digital art, and during her career has worked as a conservation fine art framer, art director, curator, illustrator and graphic designer.

Members of the local Asian and Pacific Islanders Collective will participate in a panel discussion from 6 to 7 p.m. Participants will share their experiences being members of the AAPI community in Bend, their perspectives on inclusion and belonging, and discuss how they celebrate their cultures.  

The events will take place in Tykeson Hall, Rm. 111 on the OSU-Cascades campus and are free and open to the public, although registration is requested. To register, visit beav.es/cbN
