Bend Firefighters were able to keep an RV fire from spreading to nearby trees in the Juniper Ridge area. At 8:00 am on Thursday, February 8, 2024, Bend Fire & Rescue and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple reports of smoke coming from the Juniper Ridge area along the east side of Hwy 97 north of Wiley Circle. Upon arrival a fully involved 24 foot travel trailer was found, with no extension to nearby trees and vegetation.

Two wildland interface engines were able to quickly knock down and extinguish the fire, which occurred on federal Bureau of Land Management property approximately 100 yards east of Highway 97 and north of the hydro plant.

The trailer was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and there were no witnesses. The cause of the fire was not able to be determined.

The two most common causes of residential fires are cooking and heating. Bend Fire & Rescue recommends that anything that produces heat needs space around it – this includes space heaters, fireplaces, woodstoves, and cooking appliances. Maintain a 3 foot clearance between any heat source and anything that can burn, and never leave cooking or heating equipment operating unattended.  For more safety tips, visit our website at https://www.bendoregon.gov/government/departments/fire-rescue/safety-tips-emergency-preparedness/year-round-safety-tips.
