IRS Hosts Hiring Event This Week

The Internal Revenue Service today announced it will be holding a direct hiring event for accounting professionals to fill up to 250 positions available in the Portland area. Applicants are also sought in Salem, OR; Vancouver, Tacoma and Seattle, WA.

The two-day event will be held on Wed., Jan. 17, and Thurs., Jan. 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton at 1000 NE Multnomah St., Portland, OR 97232. It’s open to the public and walk-ins are welcome.

What is a Direct-Hire event?

During the event, IRS hiring officials will review resumes, conduct interviews, and make job offers on-the-spot.

Interested job seekers are encouraged to set up an account beforehand at USAjobs and bring the following:

  • Resume
  • College transcripts
  • Two forms of ID for fingerprinting (i.e., state driver’s license and/or state identification card, birth certificate, U.S. passport, Military ID card or Social Security card)

 About the Position

IRS Revenue Agents use their accounting skills to plan and conduct examinations or make determinations on various federal tax matters. These examinations may be performed in the field or in a centralized office setting, working with taxpayers, their representatives, certified public accountants, and tax attorneys. Revenue Agents focus on specific tax matters for individuals, large and small businesses as well as tax exempt organizations and government entities.

Revenue Agent candidates must have a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or hold a bachelors or higher degree in accounting that included at least 30 semester hours in accounting or 24 semester hours in accounting and an additional six semester hours in related subjects such as business law, economics, statistical/quantitative methods, computerized accounting or financial systems, financial management or finance.

These positions are available to recent graduates with accounting degrees as well as seasoned accounting professionals. The annual salary for Revenue Agents rages from $42,571 to $136,832 and is based on location and experience.
