Congratulations to three senior students who each won $500 cash prize from the League of Women Voters Deschutes (LWVDC) in December 2023. Senior students Miranda Vogel and Aria Levinson, from Caldera High School in Bend and Evonna West from Ridgeview High School in Redmond wrote the highest scoring essays on the topic of ‘Why Vote,” during the LWVDC 2ndAnnual Y-Essay Contest.

Essayists’ photos and their essays can be seen on https://www.lwvdeschutes.org.

The LWVDC heartily thanks the dozen volunteer judges, all those who donated to the Y-Essay Fund, the sixteen participating Deschutes County schools, and the many senior students who submitted their essays.

We look forward to conducting the LWVDC’s 3rd Annual Y-Essay contest starting in fall of 2024. Donations to the Y-Essay Fund are welcomed.
