The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement regarding a state investigation from last week. On Tuesday July 25, 2023, Lieutenant Joshua McGowan with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Adult Jail was placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of both an internal affairs and criminal investigation. The criminal investigation is being conducted by the Oregon State Police.
At the conclusion of the internal investigation, a determination will be made if any policies were violated. If policies were indeed violated, the personnel action will be determined at that time.
Any information about the outcome of the criminal investigation will be released by the Oregon State Police or the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office.
