OSU-Cascades Hosts MLK Keynote Address

Oregon State University – Cascades will host a live viewing of OSU’s 41st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration keynote speaker, noted writer and higher education leader Jelani Cobb on Feb. 1.

The viewing will be broadcast from OSU’s campus in Corvallis and will take place at 6:30 p.m. in Tykeson Hall, Room 111 on the OSU-Cascades campus. 

The event is free, but registration is required. Coffee, tea and light desserts will be available to attendees. 

Cobb is a staff writer at The New Yorker who writes on race, history, justice, politics and democracy. He is also Columbia University’s Ira A. Lipman Professor of Journalism and dean of the Columbia Journalism School. 

Cobb recently co-edited “The Matter of Black Lives,” a collection of The New Yorker’s most ground-breaking writing on Black history and culture in America, featuring the work of legendary writers like James Baldwin and Toni Morrison. He also has written books about Barack Obama and the hip-hop aesthetic.

After the viewing, attendees will be invited to discuss the presentation.
