An electrical failure in the attic floor was the cause of a fire that started Thursday afternoon at an historic building on West 1st in Prineville. The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

16 firefighters responded on scene to find the three-story home with flames and smoke venting through the roof. The fire was contained to the finished attic space of the home. The rest of the home had significant water damage from the extinguishment activities. Firefighters remained on scene performing salvage and overhaul Thursday afternoon. Firefighters were able to save several personal items from the home before they were damaged by the fire and water. No other homes or structures were damaged by the fire.
