On 5/30/2019, Prineville Police, Crook County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Crook County Fire and Rescue, and Oregon Department of Transportation responded to a report of a truck that had struck a side by side type Polaris ATV at the 2000 block of O’Neil Hwy. Initial reports indicated the ATV had attempted to cross O’Neil Hwy and was struck by a northbound vehicle.
The ATV operator was ejected and was in critical condition when responders arrived. The ATV was off of the roadway on its side about 30 feet from the point of impact. The involved truck, a 2006 Ford F-150 driven by Tyler Lange of Texas, was approximately 250 feet north of the point of impact. Lange was uninjured, and fully cooperated with the investigation.
Following initial aid at the scene, Life Flight was activated and transported the patient, identified as Harold Wayne Kee of Prineville, to St. Charles (Bend) with life threatening injuries.
O’Neil Hwy was closed to traffic in both directions for approximately 4 hours while officers conducted the investigation. Intoxicants and excessive speed do not appear to be a factor at this time.
Both vehicles sustained significant damages. No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation continues until all information is received. Prineville PD wants to thank all witnesses who came forward, along with the professional help of the Crook County Sheriff’s
Office and Oregon State Police.
