Landslide – Fall Creek Falls Trail Closed

Glide, Ore. – Fall Creek Falls trail is temporarily closed because of a landslide about 0.1 miles in from the trailhead. The trailhead is located at milepost 32.6 on Highway 128. Access to the falls from Forest Road 4710 is currently impassable because the road is sloughing away.

Recreation specialists from the Umpqua National Forest anticipate the trail will reopen when soils dry out and the trail can be rebuilt. An emergency closure order was issued for public safety. Violation Notices may be issued to those bypassing the barricade and entering the area.

“We would like the public to understand that this closure is put in place for their safety. The trail is very unstable and has high potential to disintegrate further,” said Janie Pardo, Developed Recreation Manager for the North Umpqua Ranger District. “It is a long drop into Fall Creek if the trail were to fail while someone was standing near it or trying to bypass the slide.”

Other waterfall hiking opportunities in the area include Susan Creek Falls, Toketee Falls or Watson Falls on Highway 138, Wolf Creek Falls on Little River Road, and Little Falls on Forest Road 28 (Steamboat Road). The high volume of water in streams make the waterfalls absolutely spectacular this time of year.
