Fire Season Ends On Umpqua National Forest

Umpqua National Forest, Ore. – Fire managers declared the end of the 2016 fire season on the Umpqua National Forest by lifting all fire restrictions as of October 5th.

Industrial fire precaution and public use restrictions are no longer in effect on both the Forest and Douglas Forest Protective Association lands. The 2016 fire season consisted of 40 fires which burned a total 8.3 acres.

Only 13 were caused by lightning while the remaining 27 were human caused.

An astonishing 21 fires were started by abandoned campfires, a strong reminder of the importance of making sure campfires are cold to the touch before leaving.
