Central Oregon – Crews continue to contain the Paulina Fire, limiting its growth to about 3 acres.
The blaze is 80 percent contained according to fire officials. The fire burning on the Deschutes National Forest land is 7 miles northeast of La Pine and started Tuesday and grew to 50 acres by Tuesday evening.
However, as of Wednesday evening, Forest Service officials reported the fire at 53 acres.
Fire Update:
The Bybee Creek fire currently is 780 acres and 12 percent containment, and the cause is unknown.
The Fryrear fire has burned 8 acres and is 100 percent contained and the cause is also unknown.
The Weigh Station firefighting efforts have made significant progress containing the blaze east of Pendleton, and all evacuations have been lifted for residents near Deadman Pass.
Despite higher winds, crews held the blaze at 688 acres and continue to work on mopping up hot spots. The fire is now 55 percent contained.
The Rail Fire has burned 5,576 acres and is 0 percent contained. The blaze grew from 2,043 acres on Tuesday morning to more than 5,500 acres about 10 miles southwest of the Baker County town, according to officials.
Fire crews were pulled off the line during Tuesday because of the danger, but some went back out later that evening.
The fire was pushed north and east by winds up to 35 mph on Tuesday, but crews are expecting calmer weather through Thursday, according to a news release.
Almost 500 firefighters are at the fire with 11 bulldozers, 31 engines, 10 water tenders and four helicopters. More resources have been ordered.
About 10 homes were placed on level 2 evacuation notices which suggest that people be prepared to evacuate should the risk increase, according to the news release.
