(NEW YORK) — Barbra Streisand’s next film role could be a remake of Gypsy.
Variety reports Streisand could star in the role of stage mother Mama Rose in a version of Gypsy that would be developed by STX Entertainment.
Streisand would also produce the flick. Rain Man director Barry Levinson would helm it.
Gypsy, a memoir by Gypsy Rose Lee, was turned into a stage musical that spawned a 1962 movie starring Rosalind Russell, Natalie Wood and Karl Malden.
Streisand’s last film role was the 2012 comedy The Guilt Trip, which also starred Seth Rogen.
