Bend, Ore. – A panel of experts, engineers and other unveiled their findings on the feasibility of converting an old pumice mine site to a University campus on Bend’s West side.

The OSU- Cascades meeting was held yesterday at the school. KBNW’s Jesse Sky talked to Kelly Sparks, an Associate Vice President, Finance & Strategic Planning for OSU Cascades.

“There’s no major environmental concerns. He’s (environmental expert) recommended some more due diligence on the site, mostly because it’s been about a year and a half since we completed the work…we completed some soil stability as well as geo-technical work. As far as Brad Wilcox of Carlson Testing has reported, it’s a very buildable site, and we need to follow their instructions. And, I think Marty Chase of KPF Engineering may even say it’s an exciting site to conceptualize.”

The 46 acre parcel is next to the campus current location, and has been studied for more than a year.

OSU experts also recently started exploring the feasibility of using a 76-acre demolition landfill for the campus expansion.
