The Dalles, Ore. -Last night the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs (ODVA) was “deeply saddened” to learn of the tragic death of James Wilkerson, a veteran living at the Oregon Veterans’ Home in The Dalles.

Officers from The Dalles Police Department have arrested Wilkerson’s wife for allegedly killing her husband.

“We offer our deepest condolence to the family and other loved ones of our veteran, just as our thoughts remain with the community and those who care for our residents at the Home. While we don’t know what may have caused this tragic family event, we can assure that the residents at the Home are safe and that there will be support for them onsite. We ask for your sympathy and respect for all involved in this very heartbreaking situation,” said ODVA Director Cameron Smith.

67 year old James Wilkerson served for more than 20 years in the United States Navy including service in Vietnam.

The Dalles Police Department is involved in an ongoing investigation.
