John Day, Ore.- The latest report on the Canyon Creek Complex near John Day has the fire at 73,210 acres and 29 percent contained.

In the southeast corner, the fire has moved into an that have previously burned in 2012. This is aiding firefighters by settling fire behavior and assisting them with their holding objectives.
The 161-acre Jerry’s Draw fire located in the Ricco Road area north of Prairie City is surrounded by a dozer line, and crews are beginning to mop up. The fire size was adjusted due to more accurate mapping.
Last evening, the fire was pushed by southwest winds and advanced into the Norton Fork of the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness.
Crews had been working over the past few days to secure the line between the northeast corner of the fire to the wilderness boundary, working south from developed areas. Firefighters had progressed as far as 1/2 mile south of Mud Springs. However, this push by the main fire occurred 2-3 miles south of their improved line.
Weather Outlook: A combination of warm temperatures, low humidity, and a Haines Index value of 5 has prompted the local National Weather Service office to continue a Red Flag Warning for the Canyon Creek Complex area through Monday evening. The Haines Index, which uses a scale of 1 to 6, indicates the potential for wildfire growth by measuring the stability and dryness of the air over a fire.
Today, southwest winds will persist throughout the area. A southwest flow has not been the dominate wind direction since the fire began in mid-August.
