Oregon Civil Air Patrol Concludes USAF monitored Exercise
Bend, Ore. – The Oregon Civil Air Patrol successfully concluded a day long USAF monitored statewide emergency services training exercise Saturday. From base activations starting at 7:00 AM and concluding at 6:00 PM, the 100 CAP members put in nearly 1000 man hours of training on both ground and in the air.
With the main incident command post located at the Aurora State Airport, and branch command centers located in Medford and Bend, the CAP conducted various simulated missions from a missing aircraft to ELT, emergency locator transmitter, signals to conducting various aerial photo reconnaissance assignments of vital state infrastructure locations.

Across the state, members trained in base operations, ground team, communications and flight operations utilizing 6 specially equipped Cessna 182 search and rescue aircraft, some of which are equipped with airborne public address systems for use in locating lost people and Tsunami alert warnings along the Oregon coast.
At one point, flight operations had to be modified to avoid intense smoke from large, rapidly expanding wild fires near Warm Springs which prevented air search operations from being conducted.
“Oregon Civil Air Patrol is an excellent wing,” said Major Jeremy Roberts, USAF Operations Director for the Pacific Liaison Region “I am very happy with what I saw here today.”
