Lakeview, Ore. – Yesterday was the first major lightning storm the SCOFMP area has seen in over 2 weeks. Before the sunset on Friday 6 new wildfires were discovered (Crater Lake National Park reported 3 and Fremont-Winema National Forest, Chemult Ranger District reported 3). The largest is the Lightning Springs fire on Crater Lake National Park at 1.1 acres.

This morning before 8 a.m. there has already been 2 new reported wildfires in the South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership (SCOFMP) area. The National Weather Service has continued a Red Flag Warning through Sunday, June 28th. Temperatures today will be very hot again inland with temperatures 20 to 25 degrees above normal. The Klamath Basin should receive isolated thunderstorms developing again during the middle to late afternoon.

These storms still could be dry over the eastside today, but will likely become wetter tonight into Sunday. On Sunday, a low pressure offshore will move northeastward and the main thunderstorm threat area will shift eastward by Monday.
