Motor Voter Bill Signed Into Law

Salem, Ore. – Lots of applause and celebrating today in Salem as supporters of the motor voter bill joined Governor Kate Brown. She signed the bill into law.

“Oregon is a true leader in voter access,” Governor Brown said. “I encourage every eligible Oregonian to participate in the process, and I challenge other states to examine their policies and find ways to ensure there are as few barriers as possible to civic engagement.”

The Governor led efforts on the legislation when she served as Secretary of State. “Organizations can now spend their resources educating and engaging voters rather than spending time and energy on voter registration, the Governor added.

Opponents of the idea fear security breaches and technical problems and possible lawsuits connected to identity theft.
