Redmond, Ore. – Redmond Schools Superintendent Mike McIntosh hopes that more money for schools is on the horizon for Oregon schools. He says a better budget would mean that his district could restore it’s calendar – which is currently short a few days.
McIntosh spoke to KBNW news:
“The governor produced his budget before Christmas and it’s woefully inadequate –
The budget for Oregon needs to go up by 13 percent, and his budget only called for 4 percent more- which means we won’t get any more days.”
“so we’re hoping to see at least a parallel increase, which would put us in that 7.4.to 7.5 billion dollar range- right now we’re just hanging out waiting- we’ll get there, I’m confident.”
McIntosh says many school districts in Oregon are still short calendar days and more funding is needed just to bring them back up to a “normal” state.
Lawmakers were sworn in yesterday and are doing preliminary work for session through tomorrow. The main part of session starts on February 2nd.
