High Speed Chase Reaches Speeds Of 100 MPH

Redmond, Ore. – On 12/28/2014 at 11:51pm a Redmond Police Department (RPD) Officer attempted to stop a vehicle for suspected DUII on S Hwy 97 at SW Odem Medo Rd, Redmond. The vehicle failed to stop and accelerated away from the Officer. The Officer pursued the vehicle south on S Hwy 97 towards Bend. The suspect vehicle was pulling away from the Officer, while the Officer was traveling at approximately 100 mph. DCSO Deputies and BPD Officers were prepared with spike strips on the north side of Bend. The suspect vehicle turned around and started driving northbound prior to reaching the spike strips.

The pursuit continued and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police eventually took over the pursuit. The vehicle started driving southbound again and then turned around to travel northbound yet a second time. Spike strip deployment was successful on Hwy 97 at Deschutes Market Rd. The vehicle continued northbound on Hwy 97 where it was spiked again at SW Young Ave by a RPD Officer. Another RPD Officer had another successful spike strip deployment on Hwy 97 in the area of the old Brand Restaurant.

The suspect vehicle eventually came to a stop on S Hwy 97, just south of exit 124 (SW Yew Ave) in Redmond. The driver was arrested, without incident. There were no injuries as a result of this incident. A non-involved citizen vehicle was inadvertently spike stripped near Deschutes Market Rd.

Arrested was Lucas Paranto, 39yoa, of Redmond, Oregon. He was arrested for: Attempt to Elude – Felony, DUII, DWS-Misdemeanor, Reckless Driving and Recklessly Endangering Another Person. The suspect vehicle was a 2009 Dodge Challenger.
