Marcus Mariota Wins Heisman Trophy

Kelly Kline/Heisman Trophy Trust via Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota was named the 2014 Heisman Trophy winner on Saturday.

Mariota led the Ducks to a 12-1 season and one of the top spots in the college football playoff.

The junior quarterback finished with 2,534 points and completed 68.7% of his passes for 3,783 yards with 38 touchdown passes and 2 interceptions while leading the Ducks to a Pac-12 title.

Oregon will play the undefeated Florida State Seminoles on Jan. 1 in the Rose Bowl.

Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon finished in second with 1,250 total points after rushing for 2,336 yards and 26 touchdowns this year.  Gordon also broke the short-held single-game rushing record this season with 408 yards against Nebraska.  Oklahoma’s Samaje Perine would break that with 427 yards the following week.

Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper finished in third with 1,023 points and pulled 115 catches for 1,656 yards with 14 touchdowns while being one of the main driving forces behind the Crimson Tide’s No. 1 spot in the College Football playoff.

Alabama will take on Ohio State on Jan. 1 in the Sugar Bowl.
