SALEM, Ore. — Following the Workforce Oregon online security breach, the Oregon Employment Department will this week send out identity theft protection information to those whose accounts may have been compromised.

Starting Tuesday, customers will be able to call a special hotline (1-877-643-4322) to determine whether their information was compromised.

In the meantime, OED asks customers to change security questions and passwords.

After reviewing nearly 2 million records, over 850,000 were possible victims have been identified.

OED says that although there is no evidence that any information has been used, the department is proactively working to combat the problem.

At the direction of the governor, a criminal investigation is underway as well.
